Weekend adventures

I got married on 30 November 2012

It was the best day I could have imagined.  It was a very small wedding, only my family and his were there.  But we wanted to be with each other for ever.  We wanted to be married.  We didn't particularly want the wedding day, but that had to be first.

It was short, just a civil ceremony, but that didn't matter to us.

There were a lot of giggles during it, and a few tears, but at the end I was married to the man I love.

His dad came up to us after the ceremony, gave me a big hug and turned to R saying "I told you the first time I met her that you should never let her go".  I teared up a little.

This weekend was our anniversary.

We went for a weekend away, just the two of us.  It was luvly.  We went shopping, without buying much, we walked, we talked, we went for dinner, we got tipsy on champagne.  We slept, we ate breakfast, we went for an adventure.

This man personifies everything I could ever want.  He is kind, generous, giving, gentle, strong, funny, caring, stubborn, forgiving, and genuinely the nicest man you will ever meet.  And he picked me.  And a year later he still looks at me with love in his eyes.

Everything isn't perfect.  We still have disagreements and fights and still go to bed upset with each other sometimes.  But we love each other and we promised this was forever.  So if it gets a little bumpy we hold on tighter.  We work thru our differences.  We don't let go.  And we come thru the stormy times and the water gets still again, and we enjoy ourselves.

Getting away and having time alone reminds us why we picked each other.

I love him.

He loves me.

If you have a partner who still makes you smile, tell them how much you appreciate them.

R, I love you very much.  I appreciate everything you do for me, and for baby girl.  Thank you for being in our lives.

20 November 2013

Somedays I just cannot be annoyed.  Last night me and R had a disagreement, over nothing at all, but I huffed like a child and slept on the couch.

Except I didn't sleep.  I just lay on their, snuggled up in a blankie and a duvet and watched TV.  At 5 this morning I decided enough was enough, I got up, got washed and dressed, had my brekkie and took myself off to work.  I was in work from 7.30.  I DO NOT START UNTIL 9!

So when lunchtime rolled around I was a wee bit hungry.  So I stuffed myself with chips and a sandwich, yup I had both.  Now to any American readers I mean french fries and hmmm what do you call sandwiches?  I always think a sandwich in America is a burger here, so what do you call sandwiches?  You know two pieces of bread with some ham and tomato in the middle?  Someone enlighten me.

Anyhoo

Yeah I was hungry.

Its after five now.  I have the gym this evening, Zumba and Kettlebells and I am just in the mood to curl up and sleep.

I hope I find some energy somewhere.

How do you cope after being up too long and needing to go to the gym?

How do you cope after arguing with your other half.  Especially when you know it was over nothing.  :-(

Good thing tho, baby girl is making dinner tonight.  So when I get home from the gym my dinner will be sitting waiting on me.

Bad thing, that will be after eight tonight.  I forsee eating dinner whilst snoozing!!

Catch you later.....

Turn about

My life has had a few turns in it, as most people's have.

I had baby girl when I was 16.  That was massive.  It was hard work, I had to leave school, and be a mummy. While my friends partied and drank, I changed nappies and sang lullabies.  It was life changing.

When baby girl went to school my life changed again.  I went to tech to get some exams so I could go to uni.  At uni I did teacher training.  I taught for a few years but wasn't really enjoying it.

So I left.

I became a secretary.  Another big change.  People treat you differently.  For a while they kept asking me when I was going back to teaching.  I wasn't.  While I was teaching I was stressed, and took a lot out on baby girl.

Next big moment in my life?  My mum passed away.  Then my godmother passed away.  I moved home to look after my younger siblings.  My relationship broke down.  We split up.  My life fell apart.

I picked myself up again.

I decided to love myself more, and not worry about relationships.  I took time to do things I wanted to do.  I had fun.  I went on dates.

Then I met R.  My life did the biggest turn about ever.  This was the man I would marry.

On November 30, 2012 I married the love of my life.  Even baby girl says he is the one I was meant to be with.

On January 1st this year I had another life changing moment.  I decided to join the gym and get fitter.  It has been a really hard slog, but I have lost over 3st in weight, and something like 30inches off my body since then.  I am still working on this.  It is part of my life now.

Slieve Donard
For the past month I have been training to do a 14 mile hack through the Mourne mountains.  I have been training hard at the gym, and R and I have been walking up Slieve Donard in preparation for the 14th September when I will complete the 14 mile walk.  WOW

I read back over this and I am proud of the turns in the road that have led me to where I am.

My just giving page, in case you would like to sponsor me.  I am raising money for NSPCC.

Climbing the walls

#blogtember

Tell a story about a time when you were very afraid.

Well this one is EASY!

When baby girl was younger she used to sit in her high chair nd eat cut up bits of food.  If you are a mum I am sure you know what I mean.  You put them in their chair, with a toy or two, and a few cubes of cheese, slices of apple, pieces of bread, whatever, then you can get on with the housework, or watch the TV, or read.

This particular day I was watching TV, with baby girl beside me in the chair, as she ate an apple, all cut up into manageable chunks.

Or so I thought.

The chunks were obviously a strange size, too small to be bit and chewed and too big to be swallowed.

Cos this one piece of apple stuck in her throat.

I still get chills thinking about it.

She was happily chatting away next to me, then she went quiet.  Very quiet.

If you are a mum this is a warning sign...something is going on.  Usually it means trouble or mischief, but this time she was choking.

I lifted her out of the chair and did everything I was supposed to do, I checked her wee mouth, I tried to get her to cough, I put her over my knee and patted her back.

I panicked a bit more, I stuck my fingers down her throat to try and get the apple.

My sister tried the same.

Baby girl started to go blue.

My mum grabbed her off me, as me and my sister literally climbved the walls, and stuck her very long and pointed nails down baby girl's throat, pushing the apple down and out.  Baby girl took a gigantic breath and we all cried.

A lot.

Without a doubt the time when I was most afraid.

28 August 2013

Just booked a wee day trip to Scotland for a friend's birthday.  Thats me going away to Scotland in September, then Spain in October, then my anniversary in November, Christmas in December, Baby girl's birthday in February and New Zealand in March.  What a busy time I have coming up.

Isn't life brilliant?

I also have the 14 mile walk up the Mournes on 14th September, if any of you want to sponsor me, the link is here.

I also have a few night's out in between all of that.

And my training at the gym.

And family life.

It really is no wonder I haven't read a book in months!!

And I haven't been to the cinema in a while either.....

Anyone know any good books or films that I should read/see?

I am SUPER FREAKIN EXCITED

This weekend I am going to Sunflowerfest and I cannot wait.

Me, R, baby girl, her friend and my friend are going to camp all weekend, drink copious amounts of alcohol and listen to great live bands.

I am also volunteeering at the festival which means doing two six hour shifts helping people out around the site and directing them to where they need to go.

It also means I won't get to drink those days!!  (BOO)

This family friendly festival is in Northern Ireland and is just brilliant.  Everyone is so helpful, and nice, and there is a real hippy vibe, with loads of holistic therapies including Chocolate Shamanic Yoga (whatever that is).

So this weekend I will be off radar until at least Monday.  But then I will hopefully have loads of pics and gossip for you all.

Check it out, they are also on Facebook.

Catch you all soon.

2 August 2013

Hello again world.

Arms are still sore.

Not good!!  It hurts to type!!

The weather here is pretty changeable, I live in Northern Ireland and we can have sunshine and showers, hail and thunder within the same hour sometimes!

Recently it has been raining.  That is perfectly normal.  It rains a lot here, that is why our countryside is so lovely and green.  However for a couple of weeks before that we had sun.  Actual sun.  With heat.  And I got used to it.  I want the sun back.  It was warm.  I got to sit outside to eat my breakfast.  I got to sit outside when I came home from work.  I got to go for walks and not get drenched.

Now it rains.  A lot.

And I don't really like it.  Because it is still a bit warm.

So, conundrum time....how does one dress for warm, yet wet weather.

If I wear a coat I get hot and sweaty, cos it is too warm.  If I don't wear a coat I get drenched by the rain and look like an idiot.

I need to find something light enough to keep me cool, yet waterproof enough not to leave me looking like a drowned rat when it rains.  Any suggestions?

On a positive note, baby girl bought me a present yesterday.  Out of her own money, and it wasn't even my birthday.

I got a new pair of shoes.

1 August 2013

Hi blog readers, have I told you recently how happy I am that you show up and check out my ramblings?  Well I am happy.  So thank you.

Have you ever had a session with a personal trainer?  I have had one on one sessions with the trainers from my gym, and that is hard work.  On Tuesday however a personal trainer from some place else came into the gym and I had an hour session with her.  OMGoodness, my arms have been killing me since.  Nothing else is sore, she had been up my cardio so I did the treadmill on a steeper incline than I usually do and for a little longer than I usually do.  But that was okay.  The other exercises she made me do, hard at the time, but doable.  The bicep curls...I knew they would come back to bite me in the butt.  It was sore at the time and two days later it is still sore.  I feel that someone has ripped my biceps off my arm and just left them hanging.  Now they are trying to reattach themselves and it hurts.  It hurts to move my arms at all.  This pain is not good!!

When I went into the gym yesterday (yes I went back again) the personal trainer said she obviously didn't work me hard enough as I wasn't all sore.

No thank you mrs, sore arms is bad enough, if I had more pain I am not sure I could function at all!!

On the downside I don't think I am working hard enough at the gym.  I lost 3lb this month.  Yes I know that is great and its 3lb off my body, but it's crap.  I should be able to lose more.  So this month I am going to try a lot harder to be better about my food (and drink) choices and to work harder at the gym.  I want to try and lose 1st this month.  I am not sure I can do it, but the personal trainer seemed to think it was doable.

She has recommended no carbs after 5pm.  I don't usually get home from work/the gym until 7 or 8, so this could be difficult.  She has said that I should eat more carbs during the day and at night just have chicken and a load of green veg.  Thats what I did last night...we will see how this goes!!

On a more positive note it was R's birthday on Tuesday.  32 years old.  I still feel extremely blessed that he is mine.  I am so grateful that we are married.  This is the happiest and most content I have ever felt.  R and baby girl are the most brilliantest ppl in the world and I am very lucky that I get to be part of their lives.  And yes, I tell them daily.  :-)

Giving back

I don't know about you, but I feel tht things are pretty good for me most times.  I have a great daughter, a good relationship with my husband, great family and friends around me, a house and a job.  We do okay.

Since I was younger, once I got my life on track I started to give back.  I volunteered at a charity shop a couple of days per week.  I did this right through university, and when baby girl got old enough she helped out too.

Once I started working full time it was harder, but I still did an occasional shift, I liked to think I was doing a little bit to make someone else's life better.

I volunteer with a couple of organisations now.  ALT, Adventure Leadership Training, (check them on Facebook) and Urban Angels.

ALT is a Christian organisation that brings sporting activities to local church groups, youth clubs, schools etc that couldn't usually afford to hire people in.  They provide climbing wall, archery, kayaking and football training.  I help with the climbing wall.  R is an archery instructor.

Urban Angels is a group of women who want to help other women.  They do many things, from organising Christmas boxes for local hospitals, to donating underwear to local shelters.

Last night we went into a women's refuge and treated them.  We bought in goodies to eat and drink.  We provided neck massages, facials, nail painting and pedicures.

Baby girl came with us.

It was amazing how we touched these women.  They could not believe we were giving our time to give them some TLC.

It was an amazing night and we were privildged to do it.

April 22 2013

It's hard to find something great about today. It started with sleeping in, continued with getting shouted at and ended with me being sick.

Doesn't sound like a good day, does it?

However I have learned that even the darkest of days has a glimmer of light. R was so good to me today. He brought me water. Looked after me. Stayed quiet so as not to annoy me. Everything is annoying me this evening. Even his breathing!

Baby girl made dinner. Not that I had any but she made it anyway. Then she told me to go into my room and close the door. She didn't want to get sick too!

I don't get sick often but when I do it's kinda violent. Short lasting, usually only 24 hours at most. But projectile!

Today is no exception on that latter count anyway! Been sick now since half four. I had to leave work early, which I hate doing. I walked home as quick as I could, hoping I wouldn't vomit on the way!

I was lucky. I made it home first.

Lying in bed now. Trips to the bathroom my only outing. I hope I feel better in the morning but it doesn't feel finished yet.

April 21 2013

Today I had decided to go to pump class. I checked the gym timetable for when it started, got there on time to discover the timetable was wrong and the class was nearly over. :-(

I did a workout in the gym anyway but my heart wasn't in it.

I came home, pottered about the house. Baby girl made sandwiches for lunch. Then we went to the cinema to watch The great and powerful Oz. I think they both enjoyed it. I had seen it before.

Then home again. I made dinner we ate at the table together, as we usually do. R cleaned up and we watched a bit of TV before bed.

Do u eat dinner together at the table? Do u eat as a family or does everyone do their own thing?

I like that we eat together. We chat about our day. We consider the pit and the peak and share things that have happened.

It's nice to know we have this time to talk.

I have always tried to have family time at the dinner table. It encouraged baby girl to eat properly when she was younger. Making it easier for her to eat in restaurants too.

It always made time that she knew we could talk without TV interruptions. I would listen to her tales about school. She would listen to my tales about work. Now R joins in telling stories and sharing tales about his day.

It's an important part of our day.

If u don't do it yet, give it a try. Your family will luv it. Eventually.

April 20 2013

First off sorry for missing yesterday. I was in Donegal and had no Internet access.

It was a luvly overnight trip with my friend and her two boys.

We stayed in a caravan in the middle of nowhere, up a mountain. It was chilly but warm at the same time.

We went to the beach and walked on the sand. We played in the kiddies play park. We played pool in a little Donegal bar

It was brilliant.

But I missed R. It's our first night apart since we got married.

I missed baby girl too.

But I am home now. It's good to be home.

April 16 2013

I am so tired tonight. I went to the gym again today and having decided I really want to go for it during this biggest loser time I upped my weights, and my time on bike, crosstrainer and treadmill. Only to 11 mins each but the difference is really being felt in my muscles tonight!

I just want to win. Is that so bad.

But I also want to eat chips and chicken goujons! So I did!

Just don't tell the girls at the gym haha.

I went to my tutorial today too for my last assignment before the exam. I still don't like the course. But sure I will finish it!

Baby girl is away out again. She is becoming a real party animal. But she'd is only young. So that's the way she should be!

April 13 2013

Have u ever had a day that just feels good? You had nothing to do but still managed to get loads done?

Well today I had one of those days.

I was at the gym early today and worked out hard. Then I went food shopping. I bought a new pair of jeans for myself. R came home and we went second hand shopping. But didn't buy anything. Then we visited his parents. We came home. I made dinner. R put the new curtains up in the living room. We had dinner with baby girl. We had cake. With cream. And custard. Then we watched some TV. Now it's bedtime. Not bad for a day when I thought I had nothing to do!

April 11 2013

Baby girl is home. Baby girl is home.

Yay

I missed her.

She had fun tho. So that's good.

She painted my nails with the cutest cupcakes.

Its cold tonight. I am snuggled up in bed. But it's still cold.

I went to the gym after work today. Things are starting to get easier there. Which means its time for my programme to get changed. I don't want it to change tho.

But change is good. Things can't get better without change. And every time my programme changes in the gym it shows I am getting a little bit fitter. Eventually I will be fit. But I am not there yet.

Have u kept up ur New Years resolution?

I made two. To go to the gym. And to do this blog. I am super proud of me for keeping both of them up.

April 10 2013

I went to yogalates tonight.

It was good. But I am not sure I am doing it right.

R was at archery. So he was home late.

Baby girl is out. As usual.

Home alone!

Guess what I did? Made dinner and watched TV!

Tuesday, 9 April 2013

April 9 2013

Gym again today. I want to start doing more cardio. I want to get fitter. To me that means doing more cardio. I think I am going to do alternating cardio one day and normal gym the next.

I got my assignment result today. 75%. I was a little disappointed but since I didn't work that hard I have no call to be upset about it!

What else? I made an application to volunteer at Sunflowerfest this year. Hopefully they will take me. But either way I will be going!

Baby girl went to her cousins house.

R worked late.

I was home alone. It's kinda great cos it means I get to watch all my programmes. :-)

Four hours of Australian Masterchef!

That's my kinda night!

April 8 2013

The best things in life aren't things

They are people

Or events

Feelings

Moments in time

Memories

These are the important things

These are the things we look back on in our older years. The times we had fun. The people that made us happy. The music that made us dance.

Enjoy today. There won't be another today. Tomorrow will be different.

Today I worked. I caught up with friends in the office. I went to the gym. I had dinner with my daughter and my husband. All perfectly ordinary things. But even if I go the same things tomorrow it won't be the same. Things change. Situations change.

Make the most of today.

Tomorrow is gonna be different. Embrace it. None of us know how many tomorrows we will get.

April 7 2013

Home. Home. Home.

It really feels good to be back. I missed baby girl. I missed my own things. I missed my bed.

It's great to be away but coming home feels wonderful.

We went to a gig this evening. David Ford. A singer songwriter from England. He is kinda great. He had two support acts. Emily Grove from New Jersey and Jarod Dickinson from Texas. They were pretty good too.

Overall the gig was amazing and R bought me two new CDs. :-)

I am spoiled.

Have u heard any live music recently? I luv it.
