12 February 2014

Today I type with sore chest muscles and shoulders, and tops of arms too.

I have been doing a bit of weights for my upper body, and boys a dear I can feel it!!

Do u lift weights when you train at the gym?  Or do u just do cardio?

I do a mixture, start with a bit of cardio (10-15 mins) then weights (about 30 mins) then cardio to finish off (About 5-10 mins).  Or I do cardio (30-45 mins) and no weights.  Or I try to run (2-3 miles).  I have one day off a week where I do nothing.  Well, honestly I still get out and about but that is my "rest day".

I can see my arms really starting to tone up, and my legs.  My sides are starting to come in too...my body shape is changing slightly, I know the more I work at it the better it will be.

I'm just not sure if Joe Bloggs off the street would be able to notice all this toning yet!

R was laughing at me this morning.  I was complaining that my arms etc were sore from lifting the weights, then I managed to rip the zip right off my boots.  He says I may be sore but I have gained superhuman strength!  I was not impressed.  I liked these boots and now they have no zip!

The weather has been cold and rainy here recently, but I look around the weather news from other places and feel very lucky.  We haven't had the snow and ice that America has, we haven't had the floods that England has.  Yeah its chilly and wet here in Northern Ireland, but its not too bad.

3 February 2014

Sometimes on rainy days I just don't want to get up and do anything.  My bed is cosy and warm, and I have everything I need within easy reach.  But work has to be done, so I get up and leave my warm bed and go out into the rain and cold.  I know we are lucky here, we haven't had all the snow and cold that America has been getting.  We also haven't been affected with the flooding that many parts of England have had, along with other parts of the UK.

However it doesn't make it any easier getting up out of bed!

On Sunday R and I went for a run.  He bought me luvly new trainers and running clothes as an early Valentine gift.  So we had to make use of it.  We ran about 1 1/2 miles on Sunday and it was exhausting!  He is fitter than me and he does nothing.  It is both annoying and brilliant at the same time.

Brilliant cos then he can keep me at it, encouraging me and not letting me give up.

Annoying because he doesn't get tired.  I have been going to the gym for a year now, and running for four weeks.  And he is better than me!!

AAAARRRRGGGGHHHHH

It is week five of the C25K programme tonight, and whilst I definately feel I am getting there, I am not there yet.  However the trainers in the programme think we are all about 2 weeks ahead of schedule, which is kinda good.

I am beginning to like running.  I'm not good at it, but it makes me feel good to complete the small goals I set for myself.  Just run to that next lamppost, just run until you reach the gate, just run until you feel you can't run anymore.....I hope that one day in the not too distant future I will be telling you all how I have run a 5k, I registered today with Parkrun, but that doesn't mean i am ready to do it just yet.  However R has said he will do it with me when I do decide to go for it.

It is so great having a supportive husband.

28 January 2014

Last night I ran for one mile, without stopping.

One mile.

I didn't run fast, but I did run the whole way.  Well, I jogged, but that's just running slowly.

I remember starting to think about running last year when I joined the gym.  After six months at the gym some of the girls were thinking about running the marathon, and I thought to myself, I wish I could do that, even just run one leg of the relay.  But I wasn't fit enough.  I was very overweight and I jut couldn't run the length of myself, let alone run for 6 miles.

I kept working at the gym, I improved my fitness.  I am still overweight, but less so than before.

This year I joined a C25K programme.  They told me by the end of ten weeks I could run a 5k.  Thats 3 miles.  I laughed, and said, "Nope, not me, but I will try".  And I have tried.  I have went every Monday and Wednesday and each time I try a little more.

On Wednesday I was running for four lampposts and walking for two.  Then on Friday I went for a run with R.  He pushed me hard, and I ran for longer than I had before without stopping.

So on Monday past I decided to see if I could run for a bit, we run along the avenue in Wallace Park, its about 1/2 mile.  I decided to try to run the length of it, and when I got to the bottom, I just turned and kept running.  I ran a mile and was so excited.  I then walked/ran for another two miles.

Me....three miles of running and walking/running.

Thats practically 5k.

I think I can call myself a runner now..don't u?

8 January 2014

Everyone needs a treat every so often, don't they?

Last night, after spin class I decided that I would treat myself so I rang R and asked him to meet me for dinner.

We went all out, starters, main and a desert.  We even split a bottle of wine.

It was heaven.

I had brushetta, followed by pork three ways with a brownie and ice cream to finish.

R had crab cakes, salmon and mash, followed by pannacotta and pear and berries.

It was the nicest meal we have eaten out this year :-)

I'm not looking forward to telling my PT about it tho!  She says I am supposed to be trying to be good with my diet!  But once in a while is okay, isn't it?

Weekend adventures

I got married on 30 November 2012

It was the best day I could have imagined.  It was a very small wedding, only my family and his were there.  But we wanted to be with each other for ever.  We wanted to be married.  We didn't particularly want the wedding day, but that had to be first.

It was short, just a civil ceremony, but that didn't matter to us.

There were a lot of giggles during it, and a few tears, but at the end I was married to the man I love.

His dad came up to us after the ceremony, gave me a big hug and turned to R saying "I told you the first time I met her that you should never let her go".  I teared up a little.

This weekend was our anniversary.

We went for a weekend away, just the two of us.  It was luvly.  We went shopping, without buying much, we walked, we talked, we went for dinner, we got tipsy on champagne.  We slept, we ate breakfast, we went for an adventure.

This man personifies everything I could ever want.  He is kind, generous, giving, gentle, strong, funny, caring, stubborn, forgiving, and genuinely the nicest man you will ever meet.  And he picked me.  And a year later he still looks at me with love in his eyes.

Everything isn't perfect.  We still have disagreements and fights and still go to bed upset with each other sometimes.  But we love each other and we promised this was forever.  So if it gets a little bumpy we hold on tighter.  We work thru our differences.  We don't let go.  And we come thru the stormy times and the water gets still again, and we enjoy ourselves.

Getting away and having time alone reminds us why we picked each other.

I love him.

He loves me.

If you have a partner who still makes you smile, tell them how much you appreciate them.

R, I love you very much.  I appreciate everything you do for me, and for baby girl.  Thank you for being in our lives.

20 November 2013

Somedays I just cannot be annoyed.  Last night me and R had a disagreement, over nothing at all, but I huffed like a child and slept on the couch.

Except I didn't sleep.  I just lay on their, snuggled up in a blankie and a duvet and watched TV.  At 5 this morning I decided enough was enough, I got up, got washed and dressed, had my brekkie and took myself off to work.  I was in work from 7.30.  I DO NOT START UNTIL 9!

So when lunchtime rolled around I was a wee bit hungry.  So I stuffed myself with chips and a sandwich, yup I had both.  Now to any American readers I mean french fries and hmmm what do you call sandwiches?  I always think a sandwich in America is a burger here, so what do you call sandwiches?  You know two pieces of bread with some ham and tomato in the middle?  Someone enlighten me.

Anyhoo

Yeah I was hungry.

Its after five now.  I have the gym this evening, Zumba and Kettlebells and I am just in the mood to curl up and sleep.

I hope I find some energy somewhere.

How do you cope after being up too long and needing to go to the gym?

How do you cope after arguing with your other half.  Especially when you know it was over nothing.  :-(

Good thing tho, baby girl is making dinner tonight.  So when I get home from the gym my dinner will be sitting waiting on me.

Bad thing, that will be after eight tonight.  I forsee eating dinner whilst snoozing!!

Catch you later.....

Turn about

My life has had a few turns in it, as most people's have.

I had baby girl when I was 16.  That was massive.  It was hard work, I had to leave school, and be a mummy. While my friends partied and drank, I changed nappies and sang lullabies.  It was life changing.

When baby girl went to school my life changed again.  I went to tech to get some exams so I could go to uni.  At uni I did teacher training.  I taught for a few years but wasn't really enjoying it.

So I left.

I became a secretary.  Another big change.  People treat you differently.  For a while they kept asking me when I was going back to teaching.  I wasn't.  While I was teaching I was stressed, and took a lot out on baby girl.

Next big moment in my life?  My mum passed away.  Then my godmother passed away.  I moved home to look after my younger siblings.  My relationship broke down.  We split up.  My life fell apart.

I picked myself up again.

I decided to love myself more, and not worry about relationships.  I took time to do things I wanted to do.  I had fun.  I went on dates.

Then I met R.  My life did the biggest turn about ever.  This was the man I would marry.

On November 30, 2012 I married the love of my life.  Even baby girl says he is the one I was meant to be with.

On January 1st this year I had another life changing moment.  I decided to join the gym and get fitter.  It has been a really hard slog, but I have lost over 3st in weight, and something like 30inches off my body since then.  I am still working on this.  It is part of my life now.

Slieve Donard
For the past month I have been training to do a 14 mile hack through the Mourne mountains.  I have been training hard at the gym, and R and I have been walking up Slieve Donard in preparation for the 14th September when I will complete the 14 mile walk.  WOW

I read back over this and I am proud of the turns in the road that have led me to where I am.

I am SUPER FREAKIN EXCITED

This weekend I am going to Sunflowerfest and I cannot wait.

Me, R, baby girl, her friend and my friend are going to camp all weekend, drink copious amounts of alcohol and listen to great live bands.

I am also volunteeering at the festival which means doing two six hour shifts helping people out around the site and directing them to where they need to go.

It also means I won't get to drink those days!!  (BOO)

This family friendly festival is in Northern Ireland and is just brilliant.  Everyone is so helpful, and nice, and there is a real hippy vibe, with loads of holistic therapies including Chocolate Shamanic Yoga (whatever that is).

So this weekend I will be off radar until at least Monday.  But then I will hopefully have loads of pics and gossip for you all.

Check it out, they are also on Facebook.

Catch you all soon.

1 August 2013

Hi blog readers, have I told you recently how happy I am that you show up and check out my ramblings?  Well I am happy.  So thank you.

Have you ever had a session with a personal trainer?  I have had one on one sessions with the trainers from my gym, and that is hard work.  On Tuesday however a personal trainer from some place else came into the gym and I had an hour session with her.  OMGoodness, my arms have been killing me since.  Nothing else is sore, she had been up my cardio so I did the treadmill on a steeper incline than I usually do and for a little longer than I usually do.  But that was okay.  The other exercises she made me do, hard at the time, but doable.  The bicep curls...I knew they would come back to bite me in the butt.  It was sore at the time and two days later it is still sore.  I feel that someone has ripped my biceps off my arm and just left them hanging.  Now they are trying to reattach themselves and it hurts.  It hurts to move my arms at all.  This pain is not good!!

When I went into the gym yesterday (yes I went back again) the personal trainer said she obviously didn't work me hard enough as I wasn't all sore.

No thank you mrs, sore arms is bad enough, if I had more pain I am not sure I could function at all!!

On the downside I don't think I am working hard enough at the gym.  I lost 3lb this month.  Yes I know that is great and its 3lb off my body, but it's crap.  I should be able to lose more.  So this month I am going to try a lot harder to be better about my food (and drink) choices and to work harder at the gym.  I want to try and lose 1st this month.  I am not sure I can do it, but the personal trainer seemed to think it was doable.

She has recommended no carbs after 5pm.  I don't usually get home from work/the gym until 7 or 8, so this could be difficult.  She has said that I should eat more carbs during the day and at night just have chicken and a load of green veg.  Thats what I did last night...we will see how this goes!!

On a more positive note it was R's birthday on Tuesday.  32 years old.  I still feel extremely blessed that he is mine.  I am so grateful that we are married.  This is the happiest and most content I have ever felt.  R and baby girl are the most brilliantest ppl in the world and I am very lucky that I get to be part of their lives.  And yes, I tell them daily.  :-)

24 July 2013

Last night me and R went to the Lyric theatre in Belfast to watch a play.  I knew very little about it before I went, and R knew nothing, but he trusts me so we went or it.

The play was called Tuesdays with Morrie.  It has been a book, and a film, now a play.

It was AMAZING.

It is filled with laughter, tears and life.  The overwhelming message from the play is live your life now.  Don't have regrets. Don't try and leave things til you are older, or til you have more money, or more time.   Don't wait until your deathbed to say all those things you wanted to say.  Just do the things you want to do now.  (Obviously don't get yourself into stupid debt).  Say those things you want to say.

The main character in the play is dying of ALS.  Lou Gehrig disease.  His mind is still brilliant but his body is shutting down.  He tells us how he attended a funeral for a friend where he listened to everyone saying nice things about his friend, and decided that he wanted to go to his own funeral, so he could hear the nice things people would say about him.  So he had a living funeral.  BRILLIANT IDEA!!!

Me and R loved it.  We talked about it all the way home, and when we got home.  I talked about it today in work.  It was that good!!

Tonight I have a date with a girlfriend.  We are going to the cinema to watch World War Z.  I have a feeling it won't be as moving as the play was!!

July 8 2013

This weekend has been manic.  On Friday me and R were off work, so for fun we drove to the Mournes and climbed a mountain or two!  Now admittedly there weren't amazingly large mountains, but they were mountains.  Way to go me.

On Saturday the weather was so good I sat out in the garden.  I did a bit of weeding.  But mostly I read my book, the paper, and listened to music.

I didn't feel so bad just sitting about since I had went to the gym on Saturday morning.

HOWEVER

On Saturday evening we went to my sister's house.  My youngest sister graduated this past week so we celebrated.  To be honest i celebrated with the wine enough for a few people.  It all went down far too easily, and well, on Sunday morning my head was throbbing.  I lay around all day Sunday feeling sorry for myself.

On Sunday evening me and R and my friend joined a group of friends at Tyrella beach for a campfire and singalong.  Hillspeak played for us as we sat around eating toasted marshmallows and enjoyed the scenery.

Brilliant end to a brilliant weekend.

July 2 2013

Went to the gym again yesterday..big surprise I hear you all say.  Well I got weighed and measured and have lost another 2lb since last week.  :-)  Yay for me.

I have lost 3inches off my waist since the end of May too.  :-)

I still have a long way to go.

This body is by no means beach ready, but looking back over old pics I can really see how far I have come.

I am not quite ready to post before and after pics.  I figure that will be when I get to a decent weight and size, but that day is coming a whole lot closer.

R and baby girl are so proud of me.  I am proud too.  It has taken time and a lot of work, but you know what, time passes anyway, so why not do ssomething with that time??

The girls at the gym have asked if they can do a before and after spread on me too.  I said yeah, but just not quite yet.  Maybe once I lose another 3 stone.

Did I tell you that in 4 lbs I will have lost 3 stone.  Thats nearly 19 kilo or 38 lbs I have lost since January.

What else has been happening?  Not much actually.  R went out last night to go-karting with his friends from work.  He came in 15th out of 16 people!  As he put it, too many years of safe driving for him to act silly on a track.  I think he liked it tho!

I am going to Pirate Golf on Friday evening with some girl friends.  Crazy Golf with pirates, fancy dress optional....well that means I am going in my jeans.  No dressing up for me.

I hope you have a great day.  I know that news of my continued weight loss has made me have a great big smile on my face.

July 1 2013

Hi all,

Gym on Friday, gym on Saturday morning, dinner out with friends on Saturday followed by cocktails with friends, meeting R and all going to a gig (for more drinks) and great music!!

Sunday was me lazing about watching WAY TOO MUCH TV and then making dinner in time for R coming home from work.

My life rocked this weekend :-)

June 21 2013

More and more people are starting to notice that I have lost weight.  People are stopping me in work telling me how well I look.

But why can I not see it?

I know I must have lost weight (I have lost 2 1/2 stone) but I look at myself and I don't see it.  I am starting to feel just a little worried about myself.  Is it that I am developing body dysmorphic syndrome?  Or just that it is happening gradually and like a child growing up, I just don't see it cos it happens every day?

Have any of you ever experienced this?

What did you do?

I have decided to just wait it out.  I believe it is happening too slowly for me to see.  It is happening tho.  I am not that delusional!!

October is when me and R are going on holiday.  I am looking forward to it.  I want to be able to wear a swimsuit without feeling self conscious.  I amnot sure it will happen for October, but I can at least try.  I reckon I have something in the region of another 4 dress sizes to go down before I will feel happy.  That will not happen for October.  So, if I could get down another 2 I would be happy.  I am not sure that can happen.  I have a friend who it a fitness instructor who has basically told me I would have to starve myself (less than 1,000 kcal per day) to lose that much weight....I dunno.  If I work really hard at the gym I might...mightn't I?

It is like the tortoise and the hare.  Slow and steady wins the race.  If I lose it too fast it will remember where it came from and jump back on, and bring a few friends.  If I lose it slowly it will slip off without realising and won't be able to find it's way back onto my hips!!

On a totally random and unconnected note. Don't you love it when your favourite bloggers put up an unexpected or extra post?  I do.  :-)

Catch you soon.  I have work to do, then the gym to go to this evening.  That weight aint gonna lose itself!

May 14 2013

Again with the sorries.

If I were you I just wouldn't forgive me.

I am sorry tho, I just get so tired with going to work and the gym that the last thing I have wanted to do was write a blog post, even an itty bitty small one like I usuallly do.

I have done a few things since I was here last so this can be a multi recap of it all!!

I went to Festival of Fools in Belfast and took a few pics.

What do you think?

It really was a lot of fun.  I hope the pictures show that!!

I also went to a comedy club with my friend and R.  It was okay, but they weren't much to write home about.

Tonight I am going to watch a play called Diablo.  It is being put on by an organisation called No More Traffic.  They are campaigning to bring human trafficking to the forefront of everyone's minds.  It is not okay.  It is happening on your street.  EVERYONE needs to do more about it.

Okay, lecture over :-)

I have also been going to the gym a lot.  No surprise there.  I lost 2lb, gained it back and lost it again.  I dunno...the weight is coming off, just very slowly.  I need to change my eating habits now that I have changed my exercise habits, hopefully that will encourage things a bit more on the right direction!!

I missed you all.  I hope you missed me :-)

April 23 2013

What a day

I was off work, still, since I am still sick. I went to my weighin anyway. The biggest loser has its weighin every Monday and I missed yesterday.

Today I went and had lost 6lb. In a week! All that extra cardio is obviously doing me some good.

I am so annoyed that I am sick tho as it means I won't get to the gym much this week. I am just not strong enough for it! Maybe Thursday!

R is working late tonight. That's never a good thing. I miss him. Sad and corny I know but true!

What has happened to u today? Have u had a good one?

Monday, 22 April 2013

April 22 2013

It's hard to find something great about today. It started with sleeping in, continued with getting shouted at and ended with me being sick.

Doesn't sound like a good day, does it?

However I have learned that even the darkest of days has a glimmer of light. R was so good to me today. He brought me water. Looked after me. Stayed quiet so as not to annoy me. Everything is annoying me this evening. Even his breathing!

Baby girl made dinner. Not that I had any but she made it anyway. Then she told me to go into my room and close the door. She didn't want to get sick too!

I don't get sick often but when I do it's kinda violent. Short lasting, usually only 24 hours at most. But projectile!

Today is no exception on that latter count anyway! Been sick now since half four. I had to leave work early, which I hate doing. I walked home as quick as I could, hoping I wouldn't vomit on the way!

I was lucky. I made it home first.

Lying in bed now. Trips to the bathroom my only outing. I hope I feel better in the morning but it doesn't feel finished yet.

Sunday, 21 April 2013

April 21 2013

Today I had decided to go to pump class. I checked the gym timetable for when it started, got there on time to discover the timetable was wrong and the class was nearly over. :-(

I did a workout in the gym anyway but my heart wasn't in it.

I came home, pottered about the house. Baby girl made sandwiches for lunch. Then we went to the cinema to watch The great and powerful Oz. I think they both enjoyed it. I had seen it before.

Then home again. I made dinner we ate at the table together, as we usually do. R cleaned up and we watched a bit of TV before bed.

Do u eat dinner together at the table? Do u eat as a family or does everyone do their own thing?

I like that we eat together. We chat about our day. We consider the pit and the peak and share things that have happened.

It's nice to know we have this time to talk.

I have always tried to have family time at the dinner table. It encouraged baby girl to eat properly when she was younger. Making it easier for her to eat in restaurants too.

It always made time that she knew we could talk without TV interruptions. I would listen to her tales about school. She would listen to my tales about work. Now R joins in telling stories and sharing tales about his day.

It's an important part of our day.

If u don't do it yet, give it a try. Your family will luv it. Eventually.

April 20 2013

First off sorry for missing yesterday. I was in Donegal and had no Internet access.

It was a luvly overnight trip with my friend and her two boys.

We stayed in a caravan in the middle of nowhere, up a mountain. It was chilly but warm at the same time.

We went to the beach and walked on the sand. We played in the kiddies play park. We played pool in a little Donegal bar

It was brilliant.

But I missed R. It's our first night apart since we got married.

I missed baby girl too.

But I am home now. It's good to be home.

April 18 2013

Gym again today. I am really pushing my cardio. Trying to anyway.

I did 10 mins on the bike. 30 mins on machines and free weights. 12 mins on the crosstrainer. 5 mins on the stepper. 10 mins on the treadmill.

I was kinda tired after.

My wee bro works as a trainer and looked over my programme. He says it is ok.

He is staying in my house tonight and tomoro. I am going to Donegal tomoro so will have to do my blog before I go. Or when I come home. Do u mind if its late? Does anyone even read this?

I packed my bag for Donegal. It's a carry on size rucksack. And it's full! For one night! All cos I need to bring a dressing gown!

It's gonna be my first night away from R since we got married. In fact my first night away from him in three years. :-(

Do u spend nights away from ur partner?

How do u cope?
